Understanding payment statuses

What each status means, and when a payment is final.

Every payment has a status that tells you where it stands. The status changes as the payment moves through the process.

Common statuses

  • Pending: the payment has been created and is waiting for the customer or the payment method to respond.
  • Successful: the payment has completed. You can fulfil the order.
  • Failed: the payment did not complete. No money was collected. The customer can try again.

Only treat a payment as paid when its status is successful. A pending payment can still fail.

Each status change is recorded in the transaction's event history, with the time it happened.
